Granite vs. Quartz [How to Choose]

The age old debate: Granite vs. Quartz.

Homeowners often have a very strong opinion about what their preferred countertop material is. The truth is, each material has its own pros and cons--it just depends what you prioritize more in your home.

Today, we’re going to explore the differences between the two!

Granite

  • Granite is a hard stone that is 100% natural

  • Because it’s mined from quarries around the world, their patterns are unique and your countertops will be unlike any other

  • Granite costs tend to be cheaper than quartz, depending on the pattern you choose

  • Granite countertops should be cleaned daily with soap and water

  • Granite can also be stained by oils and acids (it is more porous as it is natural stone), so it may be necessary to reseal granite countertops once a year

  • Granite is durable and resistant to heat and other kitchen elements

  • Granite can be used outdoors and due to its natural mineral composition, it will not weather or fade in the sun

  • Natural granite countertops produce fewer carbon emissions during production than Quartz does

  • May show seams more readily and can have some naturally occurring imperfections

Quartz

  • Quartz is only 95% natural quartz with 5% polymer resin

  • Due to its more synthetic material, countertops can be personalized according to your preferences

  • Quartz tends to be the more expensive option of the two

  • Quartz has a solid surface, so there is no need to have the countertops resealed.

  • Quartz is harder than granite, therefore more durable than granite. It is near indestructible and keeps your countertops relatively bacteria-free due to its non-porous nature

And that's it! A roundup of granite vs. quartz. Let us know what you think? Are you leaning towards quartz or granite?
